Update an existing installation
1
Back up the current installation
Back up the database and existing
roadpad resource. Keep copies of config.lua, API.lua, MusicAPI.lua, addon configuration, edited locales and public/static/config/config.json. For linked mode, back up RoadPhone’s configuration too.2
Replace the resource files
Stop RoadPad and replace the old resource folder with the new download. Keep its resource name
roadpad. Avoid merging the release into an old folder: removed Lua files and old UI bundles must not remain.3
Merge your configuration
Merge your server-specific values into the new defaults. Restore credentials in the appropriate server-only API files; customer packages contain empty credentials. Review tablet items/keys, Business access, job applications and Marketplace image paths using the configuration guide.Preserve custom-app resources you own and restore their catalogue entries. They are separate from the RoadPad resource update.
4
Update RoadPhone for linked mode
Install the compatible RoadPhone Pro build containing the RoadPad companion exports and session/metadata integration. Update both resources together. An older build with a similar version number can still lack the required integration.RoadPad and RoadPhone have separate version numbers. RoadPad v3 does not imply that RoadPhone must also have a 3.x version.
5
Check inventory and database settings
In linked mode, enable metadata and select the inventory adapter in RoadPhone. Make tablets non-stackable and separate existing stacks before using them. See Pairing & Metadata.Existing tablets receive their device identity when resolved. Pairing itself needs no SQL migration. The tablet app tables are created if missing at startup. Do not blindly import a fresh-install SQL file over an existing production database.Check the database library import in
fxmanifest.lua: the supplied manifest uses mysql-async; direct oxmysql setups need the corresponding oxmysql import.6
Restart and reconnect
Start the dependencies first, then restart RoadPhone before RoadPad:For standalone mode, leave RoadPhone stopped and restart only RoadPad. Use a tablet item to select that physical device, then choose its phone in linked mode.

What happens to existing data?
- The backend continues to use the existing
roadshop_tables. Business listings, applications and Marketplace data keep their existing table names. - Linked mode uses the selected RoadPhone’s data rather than copying the previous standalone tablet data over it.
- Changing or removing a pairing retains the phone’s data. Previous standalone tablet data is not erased by pairing.
- With metadata disabled, linked mode keeps one explicit connection per character; it cannot store separate pairings for multiple physical tablets.
Verify on the test server
- Open a tablet from its inventory item and pair it with phone A. Pair another tablet with phone B.
- Edit a note or setting, close the tablet, and check the matching phone. Repeat in the other direction.
- Move both devices to different inventory slots and confirm the saved connection stays with them.
- Remove the selected phone and confirm RoadPad asks for reconnection rather than opening another phone.
- With the inventory-opening fix installed, remove the tablet and press M or run
/roadpad: the interface should stay closed. - Open the phone and tablet in quick succession. Verify focus, pending settings, messages and one call with your voice integration.
- Check portrait/landscape, the lock screen editor, long lists and your installed tablet apps.
